Here’s a look at the odss to win the National League 2022:
Yankees vs. Astros for AL East Title
The Yankees and Astros have been the two best teams in the American League for the majority of the season, and they have been at the top of these odds and World Series odds all year.
New York’s offense and pitching have been excellent, but it is Aaron Judge who is carrying the team this year. The Bronx slugger is on pace for a historic homer total and has put the Yankees on his back after the injury bug hit the rest of the lineup late in the season.
On paper, the Astros are just as strong as the Yankees, and they have been playing much better recently. With Justin Verlander leading the rotation and some solid depth additions like Trey Mancini and Christian Vazquez at the trade deadline, the Astros have surpassed the Yankees as AL favorites and appear destined for another ALCS run.
Sleeper AL Pennant Pick: Tampa Bay Rays
The Tampa Bay Rays, who won 100 games last year and regularly compete in the playoffs but are priced at +1200 to win the American League this year, are one team that has my attention in terms of value.
The Rays, who are currently in a playoff spot, are on pace for more than 85 wins this season and should make the playoffs. While it will take slightly better play from Tampa, these odds undervalue the Rays’ chances of unseating New York and Houston when it counts the most.
Despite having most of their team on the injured list, the Rays have kept up with the other AL playoff contenders this year. On the offensive side, key hitters like Wander Franco, Harold Ramirez, and Manuel Margot have returned, and late-season pitching help should return with Shane McClanahan, Shane Baz, and Tyler Glasnow all back or working their way off the IL.
If the Rays can stay healthy, this is not the team I want to see in October.
